Stencilled makeup bag

This month, we’re getting set for Christmas gifts – just take a look at all the ideas we have in the October issue! What better present than a pretty makeup bag for a loved one?

1. Trim two pieces of calico to measure 8 x 6". Adhere the chevron stencil from the Geometric Neon adhesive stencils towards the top of one, and stencil through black fabric paint. Peel off the stencil and reapply a little further down. Repeat the painting and leave to dry.

2. Add a pink spotted pattern around the fabric with neon pink paint, picking up the colour and applying it with the end of a paintbrush. Once dry, adhere the ‘Love’ stencil in the centre, and fill in the gaps with sky blue fabric paint. Add several coats for a strong, even coverage, leaving it to dry in between layers.

3. Curve the bottom corners of both pieces of fabric with a sharp pair of scissors. Pin a zip to the top of the painted panel, tack in place and stitch to secure. Pin the other side of the zip to the top of the other panel and tack and stitch again. Pin the two panels together, right-sides together, and ensure the zip is at least half open. Machine stitch around the three edges and turn through to finish.
