Mothers Day Crafting With Kitty Frampton
“Hi, my name is Kitty and I am 27 years old and live on the south coast in Dorset. I have two beautiful daughters and have been crafting all my life and papercrafting for the last 10 years. I am lucky to design for several craft magazines and have my own online craft shop."
My childhood was filled with craft...
...my parents were always into cross stitch when I was a child so I often went to craft shows with them. I found cross stitch took too long so I tried many others including glass painting but I loved making cards as the result was so much quicker and there is so many card crafting products available – especially now!
I have been blogging on and off for over 8 years now. My news years resolution was to keep my blog as updated as possible which so far I am managing to do. I love blogging because blogs are where I often look for inspiration so it's great to share my makes with others that they may use as inspiration. I have also met some amazing new friends through blogging too, so I find blogging great on many levels.
My inspiration comes from current fashion trends and prints. I love to be given sketch or colour challenges too, they are a great starting point for creating cards. I love collections that all coordinate with matching papers, ribbons, toppers etc.
My childhood was very crafty as my parents were so creative. My mum still enjoys stitching and my dad now creates doll houses. My two daughters are surrounded by crafting at home, they love to create cards, paint and create 3d creations. It's lovely for us all to sit down and create something together using each of our ideas.
Mother's Day is always spent with my girls, we often go out for lunch somewhere and just spend some quality time together. They love to create pictures and cards for me, our fridge is covered in their creations! I try to create a handmade card for my mum each year on Mother's Day as she truly appreciates the effort and time it takes to create a fabulous card.
Shop bought cards are never found in our house...
...especially as I have so many handmade cards to fall back on! I always give these out if I don't have time to create something in particular. I love to create a matching tag to go with the card so I can attach it to the gift bag. For special family members I sometimes create little mini books containing lots of family pictures. This year I am planning to create something with my daughters for each of their grandparents birthdays.
This year, I have created three very different cards each for Mother's Day. I find the docrafts products so inspirational I often don't need to look for ideas. I tend to find the focal image first then go on from that. I love that docrafts create collections that are so different but that you can also combine together on one project. I drew up some sketch layouts so I had a base to start my design. I then played around with various background papers to see what looked right together along with my main image/topper. I matched up the embellishments for a fully coordinated look – I love it when everything coordinates. I played around with the layout again until I was happy with it and attached it all in place.
